THE weather has posed many challenges for us this season from insufficient rain in the Autumn, seven inches of snow in December to -4.5C and hard frost in January.

It was therefore a welcome relief to all last week that we staged a super day’s racing with eight competitive races and a maximum 90 runners.

The rules of racing, rightly so, state that every horse that runs must have a stable and therefore every racecourse around the country has a stabling capacity.

Hereford’s capacity is 90.

Last week also saw us unveil the new partner of our owners and trainers facilities and we are thrilled to be working with Westons Cider who are such a well established and successful Herefordshire business.

Visitors on the day got to sample the delights of Stowford Press and Mortimers Orchard and we look forward to Westons developing a relationship at Hereford Racecourse.

They are clearly keen sportspeople as the company also sponsors at Hereford FC and Gloucester Rugby at Kingsholm.

Our next fixture is next Monday, which includes a Darts Day Challenge where racegoers can take on Terry “The Bull” Jenkins in a nine dart challenge and be in with a chance of winning £250 in cash.

We then look ahead to Ladies Day on Saturday, March 10, which is our biggest fixture of the season.

There will be plenty to appeal to ladies and gents of all ages with competitions for the best dressed lady and best dressed couple, as well as value raceday packages for just £29.

England take on France in the Six Nations, so why not make a day of it and come and enjoy the racing and stay to watch the rugby on a big screen in the Paddock Bar too.

And it is also Mother’s Day the following day, so why not treat mum to lunch in our Rusty Bridge Restaurant and enjoy raceday fine dining at its best.

Back by popular demand is our myracing.com Cheltenham Festival Preview Evening on Thursday, March 1.

We have a terrific panel including champion jockey Richard Johnson, in form local trainer Kerry Lee and ITV racing commentator Richard Hoiles.

Tickets, which cost £10, includes a sausage and mash supper and are available from our website, hereford-racecourse.co.uk

We endeavour to keep people as informed and up-to-date as we can, especially when the weather has been so challenging.
