OPENING batsman Adam Hewlett was left frustrated after seeing his Brockhampton side beaten in the last over against Himley while only needing the last wicket for victory.

Hewlett had set the hosts on their way to a good score early in the match as his 41 helped his side to 71-3 after being put into bat. The middle order added to the total with Henry Langford and Ian Bullock both reaching 29 before being bowled out by Stuart Wedge as they were bowled out for 171 from 47.5 overs.

In reply Himley struggled against the bowling of Jamie McIlroy (3-23) and looked beaten at 59-6 before Jamie Turner (42) helped to build the total but it still looked the host's to lose at 134-9. However, Worcester squad player Adam Finch (38 not out) along with Jack Whittaker held the last wicket for a narrow victory.

"It was a really close game and we're just disappointed really that we were the wrong side of that last wicket, said Hewlett.

"Our captain Nicholas Powell didn't bowl all of his over after hurting his arm and we just couldn't get that last wicket which was frustrating.

"It was never going to be a draw and was always a case of either us bowling them out or them getting the runs. There is definitely a gulf between the Premiership and Division One but it's still a pretty unforgiving league if you give them a chance but we are not far away."

Himley had Worcestershire players Finch bowling and Oliver Westbury opening their batting while Brockhampton will have to wait until the end of the month when Daryl Mitchell returns to the side after his county duty.

Australian over-seas player Toby Abernethy claimed his first wicket for the side and hit seven with the bat.

However, Hewlett said that the youngster is still adapting his game to the English pitches.

"Toby is very young and has came over for the experience than anything else, added Hewlett.

"He's learning quickly but is used to the hard tracks in Australian so he is learning that he needs to bowl fuller."
