THE Herefordshire Over-50s cricket team had a taste of their own Ashes match last week as they took on a touring Australian side.

The 24 Aussies arrived at Eastnor with three wins under their belt and declared their innings on 232-9.

Herefordshire captain Steve Docker took 4-45, but it was Goodrich bowler Mark Bradford who caught the eye, with his medium pacers resulting in him taking 3-33.

The hosts' reply was solid throughout, but they were always below the required run rate.

Eral Anderson (23) and Stuart Reeve (24) did lay the platform for an excellent 46 from Tim Whittome and 77 not out from Andy Robertson, but ultimately the target proved too great and Herefordshire fell 20 runs short.

The victors now go on to play matches in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire before playing a game at Barnt Green next Wednesday against a Midland Counties Representative X1 that includes Herefordshire's Kevin Smith and Docker.
