A HOST of athletes from John Kyrle High School successfully qualified for the County Championships thanks to their performances in the recent Hereford District trials.

The best performance of the day for the Ross-on-Wye school came from Kai Harris in the long jump with a distance of four metres and 73cms. On the track, the Year 7s competed well with Faith Robbins and Jake Ashley both gaining a place in the District squad for the 800 metres.

In the field events, Emily Hermon and Cale Thurston threw personal bests in the discus and shot respectively to both qualify for the County Finals.

Olivia Porczynska saved her best until last in the long jump to also make the finals.

In addition, Ivor Harrington finished his morning with a punishing schedule, running both the 300m and 200m, with his efforts helping him to qualify in the latter.

These athletes will now compete again at the County Championships in Worcester where they will be hoping to claim a medal for their efforts.
