Hereford United Football Club want to uncover their Ronnie Radfords of the 21st century.

The Edgar Street outfit will be travelling throughout Herefordshire to discover United’s fans with the fastest shots.

A free adult season ticket and opportunities for children to become matchday mascots will be up for grabs.

“We will be touring the county and beyond with our new inflatable speed cage,” explained Hereford United’s Community Trust manager, Jamie Edwards.

“Players will kick a football into the cage and the speed of the fans’ shots will be measured and then recorded.”

There are prizes for various age groups and the winners will be announced at half-time in Hereford’s first home League 2 match against Gillingham on August 14.

United manager Simon Davey kicked off the initiative and supporters in Ludlow will have first hit at at 9am on Saturday.

The roadshow will be rolling into Leominster, Ledbury, Bromyard, Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye before coming back to Hereford on August 14.

“We had a £2,000 donation from Cargill towards the inflatable and it is something we can use in schools and school fetes and it should benefit the community,”

said Edwards.

“The club want us to get out into the community and it’s a great way to speak to the supporters.”

Youngsters aged from five to 14 years old will be split into three sections with each section winner becoming a matchday mascot.

The winner of the 15 to 16 years age group will win a junior season ticket with supporters over 17 years having a chance to scoop an adult season ticket.
