HEREFORDSHIRE finally have something to celebrate after their first three-day win since 2005.

The county side notched a conclusive five-wicket success against visiting Devon at Eastnor.

Stars of the win were Steve Adshead who followed up his first innings century with 86 the second time around, and left-arm spinner Charlie Griffiths who picked up 11 wickets in the match, including a first-innings hat-trick.

When Devon won the toss and batted, their openers made a confident start with an 86-run stand before a fine run out by all-rounder Dave Exall accounted for Alexander Allen for 53.

Matthew Thompson went on to 122 and, lower in the order, Ian Bishop contributed 55 before both fell to Griffiths as he cleaned up the innings with a hattrick.

Adshead, who hit 16 fours and four sixes in his 110, and Atiq Chishti (80) dominated the Herefordshire reply but the home county were left 77 runs short on first innings.

Griffiths again starred in the visitors’ second innings, picking up 5-40 as Devon were dismissed for 156, leaving Herefordshire 230 to win.

More fine batting by Adshead (86), with good support from Faisal Shahid (64), took them towards their target and Tom Austwick hit a six into the neighbouring corn field to seal the fivewicket success.
