SOUTH Herefordshire’s Bill Mullen carded a gross 79 to win the Herefordshire Seniors’ Championship.

Mullen used course knowledge to his advantage to triumph at the South Herefordshire club.

The 14-handicapper held off the challenge of Herefordshire’s Keith Williams who finished second with a gross 80.

Chris Lyden (South Herefordshire) secured third spot after shooting 82.

South Herefordshire’s Vin Kilty carried off the nett prize after returning 86-17-69.

Peter Sawyer (South Herefordshire) was second on a countback from third-placed Dave Gwynne (Herefordshire) after both players shot 90- 20-70.

Shropshire and Herefordshire Union of Golf Clubs’ County Seniors recorded a 10-8 win over a strong Glamorgan side at Leominster.

The county led 4-2 after the morning greensomes and then drew the afternoon fourballs 6-6 to clinch a hard-fought triumph.

A team of John Church-Jones, Graham Smith, Bob Chadwick and Margaret Bunker won Ready Steady Win’s 16th Annual Golf Day.

The quartet, known as the Captain’s Team, fired 132 to clinch the Peter Bunker Memorial Trophy.

The RSW Juniors’ team of Nick Ellis, Ross Jenkins, Alex Bain and James Hay were the runners-up after shooting 129.

Bashers Brains’ team of Rob Brain, Mike Cooper, Steve Phillips and Neil Lancett, with 119 points, were third.

Tony Howells and Ross Jenkins won nearest-thepin awards, while Mike Burris and Karen Darby hit the longest drives on the sixth fairway.

Nick Ellis was also in excellent form and won the putting competition.
