MORE than 200 children from a Hereford school were bowled over by National Cricket Day.

St Paul’s Primary School in Tupsley organised a day with fun-packed activities for 240 boys and girls.

Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s Jack Shantry and James Cameron officially opened the school’s impressive outdoor nets and non-turf pitch.

The children took part in batting, bowling and fielding drills organised by Herefordshire Cricket Board coaches Glyn Harrhy and Ed Price.

They also studied geography, technology, art and music to explore the Test playing nations of India, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies.

The Chance to Shine Brit Insurance National Cricket Day was celebrated throughout the country.

Sarah Forster, Kerry O’Hanlon and Lydia O’Connor organised the St Paul’s day which involved outdoor and classroom activities.

“It was a very fun day with a lot activities for around 240 children at keystage level two and they seemed to have a great time,” said Forster.

“This was the second time we have celebrated National Cricket Day and we’ll need to work very hard next year to match or better this.

“The weather was fantastic and the children enjoyed their cricket lunch.”

The school’s nets have been bought with allocated capital funding and will help the school maintain their provision of sporting excellence.

The school are making their nets available to the Herefordshire Cricket Board to help boost cricket’s development in the county
