Hereford United’s new assistant manager Andy Fensome has known Simon Davey for 15 years.

The duo worked together at Preston North End and Barnsley.

“I have worked with him, coached with him, scouted for him and done player analysis with him,” said the ex- Rochdale man.

“We have talked on a constant basis and, when he found this opportunity was coming up, he asked me to be his number two and I jumped at the chance.

“This is a fantastic opportunity because you don’t get many opportunities to come back into full-time football after being a professional footballer for 13 years.

“I have been out of the game but coached ever since. I was a youth coach at Preston and I have been helping them out until this chance came along.

“I am here to back Simon and we’re here to make Hereford United a success.”

Fensome said United’s players could expect to work hard throughout pre-season.

“We need a fit squad of players to progress through the season.

There will be some different training techniques that the players may not have seen before. It’s going to be different for the players but players adapt very quickly to new management.

Change is what goes on in football.

“There will be fiveand- a-half weeks of knuckling down with some hard work and getting the systems over to the players.

“I believe Simon is a manager who is on the way up.”
