HEREFORD United manager Simon Davey put his players through their paces this morning at the first day of pre-season training.

New signings Sean Canham and Janos Kovacs were among the contracted players at the club’s Belmont training ground.

Former United player Sam Gwynne was one of the trialists taking part in the training drills run by Davey, his assistant Andy Fensome and Jamie Pitman.

Davey had promised his players a tough pre-season programme and this morning’s running exercises emphasised this.

James McQuilkin, who has signed a one-year-deal at Edgar Street, was pleased to be back in training.

“It’s a completely fresh start - new management, new chairman and new vice-chairman,” he said.

“It’s a fresh change for the club and hopefully we can push on. The lads look fresh and ready to go and we need to get as fit as we can for the season.”

Republic of Ireland B goalkeeper Dan Connor, who has signed a two-year deal at United, was not at training.

Connor, 29, has spent the last seven years in the League of Ireland.
