WORMELOW Cricket Club have attained the prestigious Clubmark status.

This award recognises that the club is being run to standards laid down by the ECB, and increases the opportunity for it to apply for funding.

The club’s annual meeting reflected on a moderately successful season on the field, with the appalling weather badly affecting the programme. A notable success was the launch of the third X1, which finished mid-table in Division 5 of the GB Liners Marches League.

This side provided the opportunity for many juniors to gain their first experience of adult cricket. The youth section, operating a “chance to shine” programme under the direction of Bryan Pedersen, enjoyed a successful season despite the weather.

Officers elected: Chairman, Chris Powell; treasurer, Nigel Evans; secretary, Mick Merrick; first-team captain, Shaun Waldron; second-team and club captain, Derek Porter; third-team captain, Steve Weston.

Almost 100 members, friends and guests attended the club’s dinner, dance and presentation evening at Belmont Golf Club.

Awards were made to: Chris Parry (junior player of the year), Chris Powell (first-team batting and bowling), Danny Fry-Sperring (second-team batting), Mick Merrick (second-team bowling), Nigel Evans (third-team batting), Dan Hearn (third-team bowling).
