HEREFORD talent Jordan James has signed for top flight French side Rennes.

The 20-year-old has already made a huge impact in senior football making 104 appearances with Birmingham City and staring 11 times for Wales.

Last season the young midfielder played 42 games in the league and scored eight goals as Birmingham were relegated into League One.

James still had another year remaining on his contract at Birmingham but has been snapped up by Rennes after a transfer fee was agreed.

“I am very happy to join Stade Rennais FC, an ambitious club, a great club It's a perfect opportunity for me, very exciting,”  said James to the Rennes club’s website.

“I can't wait to play with my new teammates and discover French football and Ligue 1 I'm ready.”

Frédéric Massara, sporting director of Rennes added: "Jordan is a talented, promising and complete young player. He comes to bring all his qualities to our midfield."

Meanwhile, James who learnt his trade at the Birmingham City academy left his own social media message to Blues fans.

He said: “To everyone associated with Birmingham City. Thank you for the last 12 years. I’ve loved playing for this club and leave with nothing but fond memories.

“Thank you to all the managers and staff I’ve had along the way, from the academy to those in the first team, you’ve supported and helped me in ways I’ll always be grateful for.

“To those I’ve shared the pitch with, thank you, I’ve made friends for life and played with some amazing people.

“Lastly to the fans, thank for you for your support, from my academy days to my debut to now, you’ve been there through all the highs and through some lows. I’m disappointed with how last season went and I hope to see you back where you belong in no time.”
