SCHOOLS from across competed for county honours with Wigmore and Weobley prevailing in the girls’ and boys’ events respectively.
The competition was whittled down to eight schools who competed in separate boys’ and girls’ semi-finals.
After some tough close games Weobley and Fairfield qualified for the boys’ final, meanwhile Wigmore and Fairfield would battle it out for honours in the girls’ competition.
Eli Jones led Weobley to the boys’ title after 10 tough matches against Fairfield.
The winning team consisted of Alek King, Tom Dyer, Eli Jones, Rubyn Dimond and George Stevenon who was absent for the finals.
Wigmore then went on to beat Fairfield in the girls’ final with captain Bethany Preston lifting the trophy.
All the Fairfield players are in Year 10 so aim to come back stronger next year after their first taste of the Schools Badminton finals.
The schools were lucky enough to have Phil Preston from Hereford Badminton Academy to present the winning trophies.
Preston commented on how impressed he was with the standard of badminton and invited all high school aged pupils to Hereford Badminton Academy every Sunday between 3pm and 5pm at The Academy School on Ross Road.
He said: "Hereford Badminton Academy is always open to new members and wants to work closely with the schools association to increase the numbers of young people playing badminton in the county."
