LEDBURY were in impressive form as they returned to winning ways by recording a 38-7 victory on the road at Spartans (Midlands)
On a windswept and dry pitch with quite a slope disadvantage, Ledbury had their work cut out in the first half.
Ledbury were building some good attacking positions and Dan Smith rolled a neat kick into the corner and from the ensuing line out a maul was created allowing Arron Almond to charge his way over for a try.
Ledbury’s back row were winning turnovers and at half time, Spartans were scoreless- most important they had failed to take advantage of the slope.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Spartans, but Ledbury were keeping them tied down in their own 22.
Ledbury’s fly half, Tom Price, opened the second half scoring with a fine solo try, having weaved his way through the home defence with a mazy run (0-12).
A yellow card for gave Spartans the impetus to force their way over for a converted try for their scrum half (7-12).
Ledbury swiftly returned fire and Tom Price again forced his way over for his second try (7-17).
With Ledbury restored to 15 men the Spartans had no answer to their power and when a penalty was awarded to Ledbury five metres out, Ed Bennion was able to touch down in nonchalant fashion, with a Smith conversion (7-24).
The match was slipping out of reach for Spartans, as Tom Hill crossed for a fine try after sniping through the home defence at close quarters, again converted by Smith (7-31).
The last try fell to Richard Watkins who, from 40 metres and in space, showed Spartans a clean pair of heels to score between the sticks, this time converted by Stuart Bradfield (7-38).
