WITH Luctonians’ first and seconds having no matches last weekend there was a chance for some of the other sides at Mortimer Park to take centre stage, as the thirds, Colts and women’s side (Vixens) were all in action.

On Saturday, Luctonians’ third continued their resurgence in Counties 2 Midlands West (North) with an impressive 10-61 victory on the road at Handsworth firsts. Will Aylen’s four tries proved influential in the dominant performance, for a Lucs squad that contained 17 home grown players out of 18 used on the day.

On Sunday it was the turn of the Colts (under-18s) and the Vixens to entertain the large crowds at Mortimer Park.

The Vixens were hosting another round of the Allianz Inner Warrior Series, which is an introductory level competition for women’s sides just joining the RFU leagues.

The ladies played host to Camp Hill and a combination side from Moseley and Five Ways Old Edwardians, losing both games 5-26 and 5-12, but put in very competitive performances in both fixtures.

Meanwhile Luctonians Colts played host to Lambs RFC, who are an invitational side, made up of players nominated by some of the best rugby schools in the country.

They normally play fixtures against Premiership or Championship academy sides, or other high-level representative outfits, so it was a real honour for Lucs to be able to host them.

To top things off, the Herefordshire men only went and defeated their illustrious visitors 22-19, with a penalty from Ewan Lewis in the final two minutes separating the sides, after both teams scored three tries a piece.
