HEREFORD Pegasus Ladies commenced the defence of their Herefordshire FA Women's County Cup by running out clear 8-0 winners against Penybont United at the KGD Stadium.

The Midwest Counties League hosts started as favourites in the quarter-final tie but came up against Radnorshire opponents who had suffered only one defeat in the Herefordshire FA Women's Development League this season.

The cup holders went ahead in the fifth minute when captain Emily Morgan found the back of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Pegasus had to wait until the 38th minute to double their lead when Amy Bradley fired home a loose ball after Morgan had seen her effort on goal blocked.

A third goal arrived for the hosts on the stroke of half-time when Sarah Bishop netted after Bradley was denied by Penybont United goalkeeper Katie Christopher.

The returning Roxy Dinescu added her name to the score sheet when she headed home from a Livvie Jenkins 58th minute corner.

The same combination struck again three minutes later when the Romanian striker headed a second from a Jenkins free-kick from near the byline.
Emily Wyn added a sixth goal for Pegasus after 65 minutes when she ran onto a well-timed through ball before sliding past the advancing Christopher.

Dinescu completed her hat-trick with a close-range header from another Jenkins corner with eight minutes remaining.

The scoring was completed in stoppage time when Bradley drove into the Penybont United penalty area before firing past Christopher.

The former Aberystwyth Town and Cheltenham Town custodian had made a string of fine saves, particularly during the second half, to prevent the holders from reaching double figures.

Elsewhere, last season's beaten finalists, Westfields, bowed out of the competition when they were beaten on penalties at Belmont Wanderers after their quarter-final finished in a 1-1 draw.
