THE Herefordshire Short Mat Bowling Association’s Macmillan Tournament was another success with teams from across the county and further afield battling for honours while raising vital money.

Thirty-two teams from across Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and beyond gathered at Leominster Indoor Bowling Centre for the 28th running of the tournament to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Since its inception in 1992, the tournament has raised over £32,896 for Macmillan, with this year’s tournament adding a further £1,400 to that total.

During a hotly contested competition five teams won all of their four games by the end of the day, meaning that the result was decided on shot difference.

West Glamorgan side Llansamlet came out on top having amassed a +43 shots over the course of the day following four convincing victories.

Runners up on the day were Whitton, who fell short by 11 shots.

Also tied level on points but further back on shots were teams from Gorsley Chapel, Woolhope and Blakedown who also won all of their games.

The Herefordshire Short Mat Bowling Association’s thanked organiser Becci Cox along with Sue Stannard, Jim and Ann Wilkinson for their tireless efforts running the refreshment and raffle stalls and Anthony Rogers for the transporting and setting up of the mats.

Thanks also went to Frank’s Biscuits of Hereford who generously donated several boxes of their famous “Oaties” to be sold at the event; each of the clubs who entered and all of the players on the day who made the event a resounding success.
