HEREFORD FC have signed a full-back on loan for one month to ease their injury worries.

Josh Gowling has signed 21-year-old James Melhado on loan from League Two side Salford City ahead of tomorrow’s game against Darlington.

Melhado previously played for Newcastle Town in the 2020-21 season alongside Ryan McLean.

“Prior to that he was in the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy until 16, before joining Burton Albion as a scholar, captaining the youth team on occasions,” a statement on the Hereford website said.

“He made his debut for Salford City at Oldham Athletic, playing the full 90 minutes in the narrow 1-0 Papa John’s Trophy group stage defeat. After that chance to work with the first team Melhado headed out on loan to Ashton United, and AFC Telford United to gain further first team experience.”
