TENNIS players from John Kyrle High School recently represented the county competed at the Regional Finals in Shrewsbury.

For the first time competing at the LTA Tennis Division 2 Herefordshire and Worcestershire league, the boys’ Year 7&8 team and the Year 9&10 team won their league in the summer term.

The league victory qualified the school for the Regional Finals which were held last month.

The Year 7&8 team played against Thomas Telford with matches of a good standard resulting in close results, with many games going to deuce.

Harry Reeves and Adam Riddle both took victories while Ben Hall and Ollie Meek were beaten while the Herefordshire school were beaten in both doubles games.

The Year 9&10 pupils followed with another difficult game against Uppington.

Jack Dobbs and Noah Meek both won their matches while Zach James and Dylan Dutson just lost out with both doubles matches also ending in defeat.

Both John Kyrle High School teams qualified for the third and fourth place play-off.

The Year 7&8 team faced Worksop in a match which couldn’t have been closer.

Reeves and Hall won their singles matches while Meek and Riddle were beaten.

The doubles matches ended in one victory and a defeat and the Ross-on-Wye school lost out on tie break.

The Year 9&10 pupils were in emphatic form against Oswestry with all four players winning their singles matches.

The youngsters were coached by Chris Friend and proudly represented their school in the competition.
