A HEREFORDSHIRE bowler has been selected to represent England squad this year.
Woolhope club and Herefordshire County bowler John Mills, a multiple county champion, went a step further than his previous successes, winning the National Mixed Fours title alongside Herefordshire team-mates Shirley Cox, Kate Williams and Joe Loveys.
Following an enforced break due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, Mills attended the England Trials in April and has been selected for this season’s England Squad, giving him a chance of representing his nation at the 2023 World Championships.
Mills is seeking sponsorship following his selection for the England national team.
“Unfortunately, there is little funding available and England players are only subsidised for certain competitions and aspects of their travel, accommodation etc,” a statement from Herefordshire Short Mat Bowls (HSMBA) said.
“John is therefore looking for a local sponsor to assist him in any way possible in order to help him to achieve his dream.
“This is a perfect opportunity for a local business/ businesses to support a local sportsperson in a small but growing sport.
“John has no specific requests in terms of sponsorship requirements and is open to any and all ideas.”
Any businesses interested or who wish to discuss this further, should contact Joe Loveys by email: webandpress@hsmba.org who will be able to put you in contact with John.
The HSMBA is the county body responsible for short mat bowling, a variant of lawn bowls based indoors in Herefordshire.
