CENTRAL defender Joe Davies scored a winning goal in two Bank Holiday matches as Westfields enjoyed FA Vase and a league derby victories.

Westfields started the weekend in the FA Vase away at Shawbury and in an end-to-end game Davies stabbed home an 85th minute winner when he joined the attack to stab over the line a left-wing corner.

Phil Glover’s side had a number of other chances but they went begging before Davies’ match-winner secured their passage through to the FA Trophy preliminary round with an attractive away tie against Worcester Raiders.

Hereford Pegasus also progressed in the FA Vase after a 2-1 win over Chelmsley Town with Jamie Price and Cawley Cox scoring the goals.

The victory means that Pegasus will now host Stone Old Alleynians at the KGD Stadium in the following round.

Hereford Lads Club were handed a bye in the first round qualifying but will host Eccleshall in the next round – all three matches will be played on September 24.

On Bank Holiday Monday in front of 387 fans at allpay.park, Westfields recorded their fourth consecutive league win with a 1-0 victory over Hereford Lads Club who travelled just 100 yards from their headquarters across Widemarsh Common.

Both sides attacked from the start but Steve Bell in the Lads Club goal twice kept out good efforts from Dan Stoneman and Steve Davies before Ian Havard at the other end kept Westfields in the game when he punched clear an in-swinging corner right under the crossbar.

Adam Newbury was posing Fields questions and dragged an effort wide during an even first half.

Westfields took the lead just before the stroke of half-time when from a right-wing corner Davies darted in at the near post to flick the ball over the line.

After the break both sides looked capable of scoring further goals but Bell in the Hereford Lads Club goal and Havard in the Westfields goal both gave accomplished performances to keep their goals in tact.

Adam Hockey was in the thick of the action for Lads Club but saw his effort blocked and then Brandon Jennings had an effort saved by Havard.

Lads Club continued their search for an equaliser and Havard was also equal to a Henry Dyde header.

Finally a goal-line clearance from Kyle Cassell prevented a late equaliser as Westfields hung on taking them into second position behind early pace setters Cribbs from Brisol.

Across the city Hereford Pegasus were also in league action as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Lydney Town.

Connor Davies-Austin and Ben Miller goals had put Peggy into a comfortable two-goal lead at the break.

However, Lydney hit back in the second half to snatch all three points.
