LEDBURY Town got their long-awaited Herefordshire County League campaign off to the perfect start with an opening day victory.

Goals from captain Joel Skyers and Ben Febery achieved an important 2-0 victory over old rivals Holme Lacy at a bright and breezy New Street.

 With an impressive crowd of just over 100 spectators gathering in the sunshine to enjoy this highly anticipated opening league game.

A scrappy first half eventually led to Skyers making the breakthrough five minutes before the interval.

A livelier second period saw Febery’s late 81st minute effort being inadvertently helped into the net by a Holme Lacy defender.

Hereford Pegasus Reserves were also winners by two goals as they beat league new boys Coppertops FC.

Goals from summer signing Tom Bendall and Tom Dixon gave Peggy a first away victory of the season.

After returning from the Hellenic League this season Kington Town got their County League campaign under way with a 3-1 victory at home to Fownhope.

Goals came courtesy of Elliot Williams, Callum Davies and an own goal as they celebrated a winning league return.

New side to the league Sporting Club Inkberrow showed their early credentials with a 3-1 win at Ludlow Town Colts with goals coming from Declan Green, Alex Griffiths and Connor Thomasson.

The other opening Premier division game saw Tenbury United go top with a 4-0 drumming of Hinton.

Substitute Torin Hegley scored a brace while further goals came courtesy of Matt Kerby and the ever-present Aaron Morris at Palmers Meadow.
