HEREFORD manager Josh Gowling said his side turned down opportunities to further their lead before settling for 1-0 win over AFC Telford United.

Tom Owen-Evans scored the game’s only goal as Hereford returned to winning ways but remain four points off the play-off positions.

“It wasn’t pretty but we got there in the end,” said Gowling talking to Keith Hall.

“I think we turned down a lot of opportunities to kill the game off to be honest. We had a couple in the first half and then two clear cut chances in the second half where if we have a bit more composure.

"Then we were hanging on towards the end. We’re not free-flowing at home at the moment for whatever reason.”

Owen-Evans started up front on his own and his flicked 44th minute goal was eventually the winner and his 16th goal of the season.

“Our number nines don’t always get goals but when you’ve got somebody in the squad who has got 16,” added Gowling.

“Our number nine facilitates our wide-men, Ryan (McLean) has got seven, Miles (Storey) has seven and Tom (Owen-Evans) has 16.

“I know there’s a thing about a number nine but Tom (Owen-Evans) has 16 this season.”

With Hereford still four points outside the play-off positions Gowling says that those above the Bulls will drop points.

“York or Boston will slip-up and when they do we’ll be there,” added Gowling.
