STRIKER Richard Greaves scored on his Hereford Pegasus debut as they recorded a 2-1 win over Lydney Town in the Hellenic Bluefin Challenge Cup.

After knocking Hereford Lads Club out the previous round Pegasus hosted another Hellenic Premier side in the form of Lydney.

Their higher graded visitors looked to strike early in the game with Sam Wines twice going through one on one with the goalkeeper but failing to find the net.

After a goal-less first half Peggy defender Connor Davies-Austin put his body on the line for the hosts making a vital block after the break.

That interception became even more important moments later when Carlos Moreira was brought down in the box resulting in a penalty.

Former Westfields striker Greaves slotted home from the penalty spot for the opening goal on 51 minutes.

Three minutes later Luke Griffiths fired home a second goal for his side to put Pegasus in control of the game.

Moreira had the chance to seal the win with a third goal but saw his effort saved.

Lydney were given a lifeline pulling a goal back on 67 minutes through Aston Jeffs but couldn't find an equaliser.

It was an excellent weekend for Pegasus as their Ladies side dispatched of second placed Malvern 4-1 in the Mid West Counties Female League.
