HEREFORD Lads Club manager Danny Moon blamed "suicidal defending" after his side conceded two second half goals in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Westbury United.

Danny Moon's side had created their own openings especially in the first half through Adam Newbury and Kiea Cowley.

However, second half goals from Callum Demkiv and substitute Josh Timbrell sealed the points.

"It was hugely disappointing," said Moon.

"I thought we had done enough in the first half and the start of the second half.

"We created some good chances but had to be more clinical.

"Then there was some suicidal defending from the 11 out there today, the goals that we have gifted them.

"It's something we spoke about at half-time and have done a lot in the last two or three years.

"We don't seem to be taking it on board and are getting punished.

"I thought we deserved more, but if you don't stick the ball in the back of the net you deserve nothing."

Looking to improve their points total towards league safety Lads Club started with a flourish with Kiea Cowley forcing a fine save by goalkeeper Mark Bowden.

Moments later Bowden was in action again this time producing a fine save to deny Adam Newbury an opening goal.

However, eighth placed Westbury looked sharp in attack and rattled the woodwork from a headed effort on the 31st minute.

Lads club started the second half brighter and Will Loughman saw his long-range effort fly just over the crossbar.

At the opposite end Joe Stradling ran at the hosts’ defence before seeing his low effort tipped around the post by goalkeeper Steven Bell.

Westbury took a 64th minute lead with Demkiv finding space before sweeping the ball home.

In the closing moments Lads Club were reduced to 10 men after Tom Dawson was shown a second yellow card.

Moments later Bell was forced into making a fine save as a low Westbury free-kick was driven towards goal.

The points were sealed at the death after a corner was headed out to substitute Timbrell who slotted home a second goal.

Timbrell should have scored his second at the death after a quick break beating the goalkeeper but the substitute fired wide.
