WESTFIELDS moved up to third in the Hellenic Premier with a convincing 4-1 victory at Roman Glass St George.

The result was even more important as league leaders Bishops Cleeve and fellow challengers Malvern Town dropped points.

Westfields result was recorded as a result of a fine team display on the 4G surface at Bristol stepping up their promotion push.

Phil Glover's side wasted little time in taking the lead when Jamie Bird blasted home from 25 yards into the far corner of the Bristol side's net.

Westfields were causing problems down both flanks and increased their lead through leading goal scorer Josh Hunt who hit his shot through a ruck of players to put Westfields 2-0 on 18 minutes.

However, Fields were pulled back when Jonathan Walker scored to leave the visitors 2-1 ahead at the break.

After the interval Westfields opened up explosively with two goals in the first 10 minutes.

Firstly Matt McDonald swept Westfields into a 3-1 lead.

And then after the restart Dan Stoneman scored the best goal of the match when Bird produced a great cross from the right and the winger stroked home the pass to put his side 4-1 ahead.

Westfields kept going and maintained their lead as when the home side did hit back they found the visitors defence in top form with Sam Rawlings leading the line.

Westfields now entertain Hereford Lads Club on Monday (December 27) kick-off 3pm at Allpay Park.
