JOSH Smith was named boxer of the night after Hereford Boxing Academy’s show at the Three Counties Hotel.
The 21 year-old collected the trophy from pro boxer Dean Evans after outpointing Harvey Williamson (Llandeyrn & Pentwyn) – and then revealed he may be retiring.
Tom Beech narrowly missed out on registering a win for the home club, losing a split verdict to Dominic Whitney (Telford) that on another night may have gone his way.
The 33 year-old bantamweight fought at a furious pace from first bell to last and bloodied Whitney’s nose in the last.
Twelve year-old Freddie Jones was impressive in his unanimous points win over Thomas Jones (Caerau Ely).
This was another bout that produced three rounds of back-and-forth action and Freddie was a deserved winner.
The taller visitor was straight on the attack at the opening bell, but Freddie stopped him in his tracks with stiff jabs and left hooks.
Taylor Cook showed a good jab and plenty of spirit, but Roly Rowson (Telford) beat him on points after forcing a standing count in the dying seconds.
There was huge support for middleweight Charlie Waybourne, but he was narrowly beaten by Danny Moyn (Anderson) after a messy battle between southpaws.
Mohammad Aman (Pound4Pound) and Liam Diston was another in skills action.
South Wye middleweight Swereyn Zych closed the show with a points win over Ibraheem Saleem (Pound4Pound).
