A PLACE in the FA Cup first round will be at stake on Saturday when Hereford FC host National League side Solihull Moors.

Last season the Bulls beat both higher league sides Aldershot and Woking on their way to the FA Trophy final and manager Josh Gowling is hoping for more heroics this weekend.

“For me it’s going to be a great game as they play football and so do we,” said Gowling.

“They are a league higher opposition but we want to have a good cup run so it will be a tasty affair. I expect a response from my side and I think I will get a very good one against Solihull on Saturday.

“We fancy our chances against anyone. You saw us last year played two higher league opposition (in the FA Trophy) and beat them.

“Solihull Moors probably didn’t want that draw because I’m sure they wanted an easier draw than us.

“It’s going to be a tasty affair and we fancy our chances. Anything goes in the FA Cup, we’ve had the last two rounds where everybody thinks we should go through and now we are the underdogs.

“We don’t mind having the underdog mentality and coming through.”

The Bulls go into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Darlington on Saturday (report inside) and Gowling is looking for a response from his team.

“We wanted to go into the Solihull game six games unbeaten but we’ve had a frank conversation in there and the players are fully aware of my thoughts about the situation,” added Gowling.

“We will go at training hard this week and be fully prepared for Solihull on Saturday.”
