HEREFORD manager Josh Gowling says he has finally got one of the centre-backs on his wish list to play in a Bulls shirt.

The Bulls manager fielded two trialist centre-backs in their 2-1 friendly defeat with Bath City and says one has been a target for a ‘long time’.

“I’ve been trying to get one of the lads in for a long time and I think he did very well today, said Gowling talking to Keith Hall.

“That is a conversation I will have with him after the game. We’ve lost a couple.

“It’s a weird one, when I was young I didn’t go anywhere for money but moved for the opportunity. I wanted to be as high as possible.

“I’ve been finding lately with some players that they are money orientated. I get that they have to provide for their families.

“For me it’s about playing at the highest level and progressing your career.”

With just a week until the National League North season begins Gowling feels his squad will be incomplete by the start of the season.

“It’s a strange period as a lot of lads are waiting still,” added Gowling.

“I don’t think we’ll have our full squad by the time the season starts but obviously we’ll have enough numbers to play a game of football and fill a bench.

“I’ll pick an 11 but what I what I need is the lads behind the 11 as substitutes or not in the squad pushing the 11.

“That will bring our environment forward.”

Meanwhile, Gowling said it was ‘very frustrating’ that his side were again without striker Miles Storey and midfield James Vincent while they await international clearance.

“Just click a button please so they can play,” said Gowling remarking on the delay by the FA to Keith Hall.

“We need them for Saturday. The frustrating thing is they they’ve missed four games now.”

Gowling said he had ‘no idea’ if they would be available on Saturday for the opening league game.

However, the Bulls manager said that his squad would adapt to the challenges.
