IN just his second rally event Hereford driver Tim Taylor won silverware in the Bob Shaw Memorial Stages held at RAF Brawdy on the West Wales coast with second in class

Some 80 crews lined up for the 50 miles of slippery greasy tarmac, writes Paul Willetts

Taylor was co-driven by BTRDA 1400 front running driver Dan Evans.

The duo in the Peugeot 106 had a fairly trouble free day apart from a sticking throttle to finish 39th overall and second in class.

Another crew who walked away with silverware were Ryan Taylor with new co-driver Lucy Wilding in the Slark Race Engineering Mining

The event was the opening round of the Minisport Cup and Taylor totally dominated the class from start to finish and found the slippery stages to his liking.

He took victory in the Minisport cup by some 42 seconds and 29th overall, he also won class F1 and first modified Mini.

Last weekends Scottish Rally saw mixed results for local crews with the Dumfries based event which saw 140 competitors from both Scottish and BTRDA series battle it out over some of the finest Scottish border forests.

In the highly competitive 'historic' category it was Ben Friend and Cliffy Simmons in their Allglass Escort RS1800 who were front runners for most of the day with Irish duo Paul Barrett & Gordon Noble hot on their tail. Going into the last test Friend held an 11 second lead over Barrett, only to suffer a puncture which cost them 50 seconds and dropped them to second in category and 24th overall.

An off road excursion ended the hopes of Steve Black with Paul Morris in their 1400 Suzuki Swift.
