FOWNHOPE won the HFA Junior Cup on Saturday, after defeating Tenbury United 1-0 at the HFA County Ground.

Under-17 Harvey Vaughan netted in the 85th minute after a tense game at Widemarsh Common, sparking wild celebrations.

It capped off a good week for the youngsters at Fownhope, having already won the Youth Cup against Westfields on Wednesday, with over half of that side featuring in the senior final.

Secretary and under-17 manager Jamie Rees was full of adulation for the young players and coaching staff who made the win possible.

He said: “Our managers, Leon Harwood and Joe Price, need massive credit. The adult team nearly folded at the start of this season because of a lack of players. The help given by our young players was just brilliant.

“To see Harvey Vaughan, an under-17, score the winner was just fantastic.”

After such a young crop of players heralded such success, the club is hopeful of maintaining the togetherness of the squad for the foreseeable future.

“With the junior league finishing now at under-17 level, we’re hopeful that these players stick around at the club and in football in general," added Rees.

"We’d love to challenge for Division One next year.”
