TOWERING defender Jamie Grimes said the Bulls are now hard to get the ball off after they took a 1-0 victory over Guiseley.

It was the second league game Hereford have kept a clean sheet after conceding 56 goals in 35 games last season.

The victory came after Hereford were dumped out of the FA Cup to Stafford on Tuesday night.

“As a group after the Stafford game it wasn’t good enough from anybody involved,”

“We were all really disappointed, we shuck it off on Thursday and worked on a few things. If you’re going to be successful you need to bounce back quickly and I think we did that.

“They threw a lot at us in the second half and I feel like we can play a little bit better to our patterns that the gaffer works on to take the pressure off.

“We defended well and defended where we needed to, but that’s what we’re there for. The second half they got on top, we work on things in training on how we want to play and we didn’t quite do what we wanted.

“We’re not playing well at the minute in that sense but we’re picking up results. That’s the really pleasing thing.

“We’ve got a lot of experience and work on patterns the gaffer wants us to play, you can see that when we do get our foot on it and do get the ball moving.

“We’re hard to get the ball off and when we come to places like this and get a goal we want to try and control the game, it was a little bit disappointing today that we didn’t, but we got the result.

“If we play to our patterns and play how we know we can play and work on I think we could be a lot more dominant in games.

“It’s important that we get results.”

Grimes, aged 29, started his career at Swansea City and previous clubs include Kidderminster Harriers, Dover Athletic, Cheltenham Town, Macclesfield Town and Ebbsfleet United before joining the Bulls in the summer.

“I’ve enjoyed every game so far, I’m enjoying the lads I’m playing with and the way we’re playing,” he added.

“I just enjoy defending really and we’ve had quite a lot of that to do the last two away games.”

Grimes has already formed a bond with centre-half partner Jake Wight who he has enjoyed learning from in his short time at the club.

“I’m learning from him, he’s had a great career, got promotions under his belt and we were talking about what promotions feel like and that’s something I want to do,” added Grimes.

“He talks and we’ve got a good partnership. We keep things nice and simple, nothing difficult and play. I’m a bit bigger than him but he’s experienced and if he needs to win it he does, you’ve seen that.

“He said anything in between you go and win it and that suits my game and his game.”

Hereford face York City at Edgar Street next weekend and Grimes hopes the Bulls can ‘get on the front foot and score some goals’.

He added: “I’ve not played against York for a few years but they’re always up there, always challenging and have great expectations at their club but we’ve got great expectations here.

“It will be a good test to us, we’ll see where we’re at it’s a challenge. I said to the lads every game we challenge ourselves and see how well we can do.”

Hereford welcomed back striker Lenell John-Lewis for their tie at Guiseley and Grimes said that ‘it’s a pleasure’ to play with a marksman of his calibre.

“When he plays it’s a pleasure because I get to see centre-halves beaten up,” he added.

“We feel like we’re doing a lot of defending with Lenny (John-Lewis) he’s going throw his body around, win flick-ons and as a centre half seeing that it gives you a boost.

“It’s a pleasure when he plays.”
