BURGHILL, Tillington and Weobley Cricket Club finished a tough season celebrating as their seconds won the Worcester County League Shield Competition in a last over thriller.

In artic conditions at Ombersley CC, Burghill won the toss and asked Barnt Green to bat.

It was a good toss to win and Barnt Green were soon two down for 13.

The opening bowlers JD Lewis and Greg Penning bagged a wicket apiece.

Runs were hard to come by, even more so when the first and second change bowlers were introduced.

JD Lewis finished with 2-38 off eight overs, Clive Chadhani 1-34 and Greg Penning 1-43.

In reply Den Smith and Rob Garrard opened the batting and put on 76 before Garrard was caught for 26.

Smith was out soon after, top scoring on 40.

Tim Walsh and Clive Chadhani came together steadied the ship looking in control as they slowly built a partnership.

However, when Walsh was bowled for 34 Greg Penning made a quick-fire 24.

At the close, Ryan Knight joined Clive (31no) and hit the winning run much to the delight of the Burghill supporters.

Steve De Souza, chairman of Burghill Tillington and Weobley Cricket Club said: "It has been a tough summer for all, but the return of cricket has lifted the spirits of many."
