VILLAGE PEOPLE BC

In the ACES division the six times winner of the Top Gun accolade Adrian Lunt and Liz Drew had a mechanical incident upsetting their rhythm, hence crashing and burning by -32 pts .

They were not going down alone, however, and took Janet Jenman and Keith Claridge with them into the Kings.

Rooky league player Lis Priday, playing with her sister Helen Powers, made an immediate impact, bidding and making a difficult 6 Spades.

Brian Organ and Helen Earley forever destined to be the "bridesmaid" were pipped at the post by a stunning performance from Isobel Bird and Elizabeth Jones taking the TOP GUN crown for the first time by 33pts to 30.

In the Kings' division Simon Evans and Peter Quick were head and shoulders above the pack and together with, those two stalwarts of the bridge scene, Dorothy Johnson and Gill Boase were promoted to the ACES.

Ladder

A right royal battle ensued when Colin Palmer and Brian Organ Challenged Dorothy Johnson and Gill Boase for the top spot on the ladder.

The incumbents quickly stormed into a 20 point lead ,followed by the challengers relentlessly chipping away at their lead, until, with nothing in it, they went into the last and 20th hand.

The challengers final bid of four hearts doubled, was played by West.

Eventually, West, needing one more trick to make the contract led his last card, the nine of Diamonds.

N and E discarded, S played his last card ,which, to the Challengers delight was the eight of Diamonds falling beneath declarers nine to win the trick, the hand, and the match by the narrowest of margins.

Brian and Colin now sit regally at the top of the ladder.
