HAVING put in an impressive display to help Colwall Cricket Club lift The Cricketer Village Cup as they beat Redbourn by six runs at Lord’s three days later Ben Febery was back in Malvern Town action as he played his part as the Development team overcome the challenge of New Dales Vale in a pre-season friendly, writes Andy Poole

“My week still doesn’t seem real, it’s not sunk in properly yet,” admitted the talented youngster. “Throughout my time at Colwall we have always talked about getting to the Final of the Village Cup, so to not only get there but also win in the way we did was fantastic.

“It will be something that I will remember forever; I enjoyed every single minute of it and tried to take it all in as best I could.

“The only disappointment was that because of the Covid-19 situation, my family and friends were unable to come along and be part of it too, especially my brother, James, as he travelled to watch every game that we won to get us into the final.”

The focus now turns back to football for the Ledbury-based midfielder.

“I’ve really missed my football because of my cricket commitments so it was nice to get back into it on Tuesday for the Development team,” he continued. “I’m excited for the season now; I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the cricket but I do miss my football and I can’t wait to get back at it and working hard.

“My target is to play to a consistently high standard and be able to push for the first-team, which will be hard because of the strength we have within the squad this season.

“I am always up for a challenge, though, and it is something to push for.

"I’ll certainly take the confidence gained from my cricket into my football.

“The chance to play at the home of cricket is something that many can only dream of. It’s the equivalent of stepping out at Wembley and it’s amazing to be able to say that not only did I do it but I won there as well.

“Winning any trophy is special no matter what the sport or where the final is played and hopefully we’ll be able to win some silverware at Malvern Town this season at all levels.

“With the quality that we have here, there is no reason why we can’t do that.”
