WESTFIELDS made their exit in the FA Cup first round qualifying following a 3-1 home defeat to Worksop Town.

Worksop proved to be a tough, strong, aggressive and a powerful side coming back from a goal down to take victory.

Fields opened up the game perfectly when Joel Edwards burst through the visitors’ defence in only the 3rd minute but his shot was fired over.

However, Edwards redeemed himself in the eighth minute when he put his side ahead with a superb strike from outside the penalty area for the opening goal.

However, the visitors drew level in the 33rd minute when Paul Hurrell was adjudged to have tackled from behind and the visitors equalised from the penalty spot when Vaughan Redford converted the penalty kick.

Five minutes later Worksop Town took the lead when fullback Connor Smythe raced down the left-hand side and hit a fine left-foot shot into the far corner to put the visitors ahead.

And then right on the stroke of half-time Luke Hinsley beat the Westfields offside trap to race through and fire across the diving Steve Sarkodie to give Worksop a 3-1 interval lead.

After the break Worksop’s strong tackling gave Westfields very little opportunity to get back into the game despite both wingers Dan Stoneman and Sid Grant trying to create openings.

The game became untidy and littered with free-kicks and a number of players received yellow cautions.

In the 80th minute Emmanuel Bam was sent off along with Connor Smythe for a tangle which resulted in both players getting red cards.

It was a disappointing week for Phil Glover's side who also saw their long unbeaten record broken in the league following a 2-0 defeat at Binfield on Saturday.

Fields now go forward with two further away games in the Hellenic League Premier Division when on Saturday they visit Easington Sports and then next Tuesday they visit local rivals Lydney Town, kick-off 7.45pm.
