HEREFORD manager Josh Gowling said he was slightly frustrated that his trialists failed to implement their gameplan during a 3-1 defeat to Halesowen Town.

Toby Raison was the only named player for Hereford during the first 45 minutes when he played alongside 10 trialists.

Despite this the Bulls were ahead after on 15 minutes when a long ball beat the off-side trap.

The Bulls trialist striker saw his header tipped down by the goalkeeper and he scored the rebound. Moments later the Bulls could have been reduced to 10 men when James Bowen had a Hereford trialist in a headlock.

The trialist responded and his arm connected with Bowen with the Bulls player substituted swiftly.

Former Bull Jamie Molyneux went close on 25 minutes seeing his first effort and rebound saved by close range from the Hereford trialist goalkeeper.

Jack Holmes was next to test the Bulls shot stopper cutting inside before seeing his low effort saved by the keeper's legs.

Four minutes before the break the Yeltz were level through a looping Danny Westwood shot from outside the box which nestled into the top corner of the net. The Yeltz should have had a 53rd minute lead when Bowen opened the visitors up before pulling the ball back for Jamie Ashmore who put his effort wide.

Former Bulls forward Molyneux put his side into a 2-1 lead on 63 minutes driving at the defence before chipping over substitute goalkeeper Paul White.

A third Yeltz goal three minutes from time sealed the victory with substitute Robbie Bunn finding space before driving low past White to seal the victory.

“The lads played 60 minutes against TNS so we wanted to rest the majority of the lads today so the first 60 minutes was a trialist team really," said Gowling.

“The lads didn’t implement what we asked them to do yesterday which was a bit frustrating from my point of view. When you put a group of trialists in there it’s always difficult.

“They’re trying to earn a contract and to impress so I can understand that.

"There’s a couple of lads who have been with us from the start of pre-season and they’ve impressed and done well.

“And there’s a couple of lads who have come in an they’ll be with us the next couple of weeks.

“In the second half the lads who came on, our signed lads, it was about minutes for them giving them 40 minutes after having 60 on Saturday. “We will look to give them another 60 minutes on Saturday (against Weston-Super-Mare)."

Signed players Tom Owen-Evans, Kyle Finn, Lenell John-Lewis, Ben Pollock and Dan Jones were all left out as they continue to recover from minor injuries.

“The lads have had five or six months off so it’s to be expected that we’ve come back in training at a tempo and they’ve picked up little niggles," added Gowling. “We’re wrapping them up in cotton wool I suppose as we haven’t got a squad of 20 so we have to be mindful of that so there’s some lads that probably could have been involved today, but we feel that probably giving them another week or so they will be where they need to."

Hereford face another test in the form of a Weston-super-Mare side this Saturday.

The hosts have former Bulls players Mike Symons, Jacob Jagger Cane and Kieran Thomas amongst their ranks.

“They have got a few lads we know very well so I’m sure there will be a few tasty tackles," added Gowling. “It’s a good test, they’re a footballing side and that’s what we are and will be going into the season.

"Obviously their season is pretty much ready to go so it will be another fitness test for the lads."
