HEREFORD Pegasus Ladies and Westfields Women got their competitive seasons underway in style, both clinching Women's FA Cup victories.

After moving from Lads Club to their new Old School Lane home during the long summer Pegasus enjoyed their first outing against Rugby Borough Women.

Roxana Dinescu got her tally for the season underway scoring the games only goal in the first half.

Their next FA Cup tie will be at home in the preliminary round against Coventry Sphinx Ladies on September 20.

Meanwhile, across the city Westfields saw off Leamington Lions in a 2-1 home victory.

Westfields gave a hard-working display to race into a 2-0 interval lead with cracking goals from Lauren Brown.

Goalkeeper Ana Moreira was the star of the show for Fields and made two breath-taking saves in the first half to keep Westfields well in front.

Leamington came back into the tie but couldn't stop Fields progressing.

Westfields now have a mouth-watering tie on September 20 at home to Worcester City Ladies.

"Obviously it's been a long summer and we were itching to get going," said Westfields women's manager Ben Archer.

"The girls have worked hard during August so it was nice to get going and with a first home win which was brilliant."

This weekend focus turns to the opening Midwest Counties Female League fixtures.

Due to the uncertainty around Covid-19 the league has been split in two mini leagues of six sides to begin with.

Pegasus will host county rivals Bartestree Women this Sunday while Westfields host Worcester City FC Ladies under-23s.
