DAVE Morris became the first 'Deer Park' captain to retain the Ledbury Ryder Cup in its eighth year of running.

The Ledbury Ryder Cup continued to go ahead this year despite initial concerns due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with a later date in August instead being fixed at the usual venue of Dymock Grange Golf Club.

Team 'Deer Park' in blue became the first team to retain the title over the red 'Rest of Ledbury' side with a close 17½ - 15½ win. What started out back in 2012 as an idea for a friendly competition between event organiser Adam McTear and a few close friends has grown in popularity over the years to see 44 participants take part in the latest tournament.

The score was 7-6 to Dave Morris' Deer Park after the doubles as Joel Skyers' Rest of Ledbury team continued to battle on during the latter singles half of the day, falling just short of overcoming their rivals as the blues celebrated retaining the trophy. Morris and red team member Dave Gladwin won the closest to the pin challenges.

New captain Ben Miller was nominated by Morris to try and continue this winning streak next year, with Ady Hodges being put forward by Skyers to lead 'Rest of Ledbury' 2021 recovery campaign.
