A TEENAGER from Ross Rowing Club struck gold twice in the first ever British Rowing Virtual Championships.

The event, which was the first of its kind, brought together 1,221 competitors between June 27 and 28.

Each indoor rower competed in real-time, side by side racing in the unique setting of their own home, with action from every race across the weekend live streamed on the British Rowing website.

In the Junior Year 10 girls category, Ross Rowing Club’s Yasmin Howe won both heats for the five-minute race and the 500-metre race on the Saturday, taking her through to the finals the following day.

The following day Yasmin was on form again racing to victory twice, topping the podium and winning gold medals in both categories.

Yasmin is a Year 10 student at St Mary’s RC High School.

Despite not being able to row on the open water during the pandemic the youngster has been training hard, six days a week at home
