NEW member Nigel Fullerton continued his success at Ross Golf Club by winning his second monthly stableford competition on the bounce.

Throughout the winter season a series of five monthly stableford competitions are used to qualify for the become Barnfield Trophy.

The first major honours board event of the 2020 season with 60 members taking part will only be scheduled when circumstances allow.

In the final qualifier played prior to lockdown restrictions Fullerton, having won the previous qualifier when playing in his first major competition since recently joining, made it a 'unique double' in winning his second event as well.

Fullerton's 39 points score resulted in another handicap reduction to 18.

Just 18 months ago Fullerton was enticed to settle in the Wye Valley and he enjoys the Ross Club's tree-lined course.

While nine handicapper Martin Davies matched Fullerton's 39 points total on the day he missed out on the top spot on count-back.

Another winter event which came to a close on lock-down day was the popular 'Play with the Pro' series where three club members team up along with one of the club's professionals either Tim Hall, Oli Leett or James Dobbs to play a friendly nine holes of 1/2/3 Waltz Stableford golf.

The champions proved to be Hall with Dave Broome, Peter Shaw and Nick Tamblyn with 50 points.

Meanwhile members celebrate the appointment of Bob Baker as the 2020/21 club captain.

As Baker was recovering his fitness at the time the traditional 'Drive-in' which initiates an opportunity to raise funds to help others, became a putting challenge.

Baker's 37 inches away from a hole achievement won Alastair Watkins a magnum of champagne and enabled the captain's chosen 'The Cystic Fibrosis Trust' charity fundraising year to be kick-started with a £75 benefit.
