ROSS Ladies A team finished their season in style with a fine win in their last winter match against Stourbridge B's.

Brenda Saunders and Val Davies played as first pair, and after a long break were excited to partner each other again.

Despite some fierce serving from the opposition, and consistent hitting Ross took the rubber dropping only three games.

The second rubber for the Ross second pair was a close affair. Sarah Drake and Jane Pepperell withstood the consistent opposition in a nip and tuck first set, eventually taking the tie break.

This seemed to deflate the Stourbridge pair who then conceded the second set too.

Brenda and Val had to concentrate against the second pair, who were tricky but secured a straight sets win.

Meanwhile, Ross Ladies B team travelled to Worcestershire for their rearranged match with Kempsey.

Heather Peachey and Sandy Foulkes played as Ross's first pair and had a good match against Kempsey's first pair, but unfortunately the opposition got the better of them and they lost 6-2 6-2.

Meanwhile, Hayley Jackson and Gaynor Raine were having an easier match against the second pair, winning the first set 6-3 before taking the second set in a tie-break.

Peachey and Foulkes had a better second match and won fairly easily 6-2 6-3.

Meanwhile Jackson and Raine were having a tussle with the first pair and the first set went to a tie-break.

The more experienced opponents from Kempsey had the edge and seemed to be able to finish off the important points so the Ross team lost the first set.

Despite Jackson firing on all cylinders in the final set the Ross pair lost 7-6 6-2.

The final score was two rubbers each, four sets each, so it was down to number of games to decide which team won.

Although there were only two games in it the Kempsey team took away the winning points with 39 games against Ross's 37.

Both teams thoroughly enjoyed the match and superb rallies that we had.
