AFTER securing a top 12 position for her age category in Great Britain a young Hereford player took on the Invitational Winter National Tour girls finals recently.

A successful season for Sofie Glinos saw her invited to play in the girls' 10 and under category competition at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.

The Hereford Squash, Tennis & Racketball Centre player was up against the best players in the country for one last time in the winter season.

It was a tough weekend for Glinos, with a 4-1, 4-1 first round loss against the eventual fourth placed finisher, Ophelia Korpanec Davies (Surrey).

A further first day loss followed (4-1, 4-0) against Katie Chen from Hertfordshire.

On the second day Glinos valiantly fought back resulting in two tighter matches and narrow defeats to Sophia Filipas (Hertfordshire), 4-3, 4-0, and Tia Dhillon (Derbyshire), 4-2, 4-2. The results meant that Glinos finished the GB national winter season in 16th place.

Eventual winner of the competition was Holly Smart (Middlesex), with the competition dominated by players from counties in the South East.

Training on neighbouring courts were both Andy and Jamie Murray and Glinos took the opportunity to meet both players during the event.

Glinos will now move up to the girls' 11 and under and 12 and under age groups, with the summer season commencing when sports start again.

Glinos trains at the Hereford Squash, Tennis and Racketball Centre with Andrew Griffiths and Callum Treasurer, who specialise in high performance tennis.
