LUCTONIANS head coach Ryan Watkins was left disappointed with his side after they conceded five tries in the opening 32 minutes on their way to a 36-24 defeat to relegation rivals Otley.

Lucs travelled to Yorkshire with the knowledge that a win would all but end Otley's safety hopes.

However, a mauling in the first half, which ended 36-12 hindered their hopes with only Charlie Meredith's brace providing a response.

Watkins' side proved a better outfit in the second half and Callum Young scored a third try before in the closing minutes Rob Lewis salvaged a bonus point.

"What was disappointing was the way we started the game," said Watkins.

"We didn't stop them coming forward and they pinned us down well by kicking deep. That allowed them to score for fun with 36 points in the opening 25 to 30 minutes.

"Credit to the way we fought back and got something out of the game. I think the boys didn't mentally get off the bus very well at Fylde and Otley which were back to back away games which took it out of them.

"We didn't get to grip with the fact that if they (Otley) lost that would be the end of their season."

All rugby including training has now been suspended until a review on April 14.

Watkins' side were due to play basement side Scunthorpe but will now have to wait for the match to be re-scheduled

Going into the enforced break Luctonians sit two points above third from bottom Otley with five games to play.

"It's frustrating as we were meant to play Scunthorpe on Saturday which have been a good opportunity to get back to winning ways," added Watkins.

"Now there is no rugby for four weeks and the boys aren't allowed to train."
