HEREFORD RFC saw their unbeaten home run ended after first half defensive frailties were exploited resulting in Whitchurch running over three tries and taking a 28-15 win.

After finding themselves 21-5 down at the break the Wyesiders rallied with Levi Hughes and Ewan Proctor adding to Josh Bell's first half effort to pull the score back.

"It was a story of two halves, we started off slowly and didn’t really come out of the blocks," said coach Luke Fisher.

"They put us under a lot of pressure, defensively they challenged us and our defence wasn’t very good.

"When we had ball in hand, we made good progress, but couldn’t capitalise and take points from pressure in the red zone.

"In the second half we challenged them playing with tempo and structure. We retained the ball, scored two nice tries and clawed back 10 points."

Hereford were slow starting allowing their visitors a foothold in the game and a catch and drive resulted in a fourth minute converted try.

The Wyesiders made good use of the slope to gain good field position and eventually pulled points back when Bell followed up a quick tap penalty to crash over for a 16th minute try.

However, a charged down kick followed by a missed tackle allowed Whitchurch in for two crucial tries before the break to lead 21-5.

After half-time Hereford played with an increased tempo, going through the phases and retaining their structure.

A miss-pass gave Hughes enough space to beat his man on the outside to race over in the corner.

Hereford followed that up with a third try when two charges by centre Tom Ewins, saw him off-load for Ewan Proctor to register his third try in six games.

Neither try was converted, but Hereford had moved to within six points of gaining parity. Whitchurch responded by sealing their bonus point with a well taken try, when a high cross kick to the left corner was won and touched down by the winger.

The kick was successful and despite some desperate attacking by Hereford, Whitchurch ran out winners by 28-15.
