FOLLOWING a season of consolidation Hereford Hockey Club's women are beginning to shine brightly once again with a consistent side.

The first team sit in third place in the West Club Women's Hockey League North Division and consolidated their position with a 4-0 thrashing of basement side Newent seconds on Saturday.

Tia Taylor, Maddie Children, Di Feeley and Ellie Baxter all found the net for Hereford as they took a seventh victory of the season.

With just one team promoted due to restructuring captain Emily Rogers says that this season has been a consolidation year.

"The season is going quite well and I think third place is probably end up and deservedly so," said Rogers.

"This season has been about consolidation really as we struggled for players last season. We have now got a more consistent team out every week which is good.

"We have quite a few players coming up. It's a funny old league and the top teams aren't always the hardest to play as not everybody can get their strongest side out every week."

Leominster women continued their title challenge in Severn Division One with a 2-1 win over Chipping Norton, leaving them two points behind leaders Stroud but with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, in Severn Division Two it's Colwall & Malvern who lead the fight for second place following a 2-1 win at Newent thirds.
