  • ROLLING MATCH REPORT
  • The interim management duo of Josh Gowling and Steve Burr made three changes to the side that started last Saturday's game against Curzon Ashton, with Kyle Finn, Jacob Jagger Cane and new loan signing Jevan Anderson earning a place in the starting XI.
  • After a minute's applause to honour former Alfreton Town player Jordan Sinnott who passed away recently, Hereford got the game underway at a blustery Impact Arena.
  • Alfreton saw the better of chances within the opening exchanges. Danny Elliott was first to try his luck as he burst through the Bulls defence, but thankfully for the visitors the shot was dragged wide.
  • Moments later Johnson had a great chance as a his half-volley following a long throw into the box was fired inches wide.
  • Hereford's first real chance of the came in the 14th minute as a poor corner was worked back into the box, but Rowan Liburd's snapshot was high and wide of the target.
  • Two minutes later some neat, passing football almost paid dividends as a shot just cleared the crossbar. The ball was played back out to the unmarked Tommy O'Sullivan after some good build-up play, and his screamer was just inches over the crossbar.
  • The referee then stopped play in the 25th minute for people to pay their respects to Jordan Sinnott, with few chances in the five minutes afterwards.
  • It was Alfreton who would break the deadlock, possibly helped by the strong wind behind them. A great ball threaded through to Josh Clackstone saw the right-back rifle a shot past Will Henry to open the scoring.
  • Hereford tried for an equalier before the half time break, but it wasn't to be. They had their chances, showing some great passing play eight minutes before the break.
  • An initial shot from Jason Pope was deflected, but with the Bulls still in possession the ball was worked to Jagger Cane on the edge of the area. He lifted the ball into the area and Liburd heads over.
  • HALF TIME 1-0
  • The Whites started the second half strongly, with Alex Bray going close moments after the restart. Hereford were trying to work the ball into the box but it was Hodgkiss who eventually crossed the ball in to Bray. Somehow the keeper managed to keep the effort out.
  • Against the run of play Alfreton doubled their lead, a real sucker-punch for the Bulls.
  • An initial shot was parried by 'keeper Will Henry, but the rebound fell to the feet of the dangerous Chester loanee Danny Elliott to bundle home.
  • Heads didn't drop too much with Hereford keeping the pressure on. Substitute Reece Styche had three great chances to put the Bulls ahead.
  • The first, from a free-kick, was powerful but straight at the keeper. A better chance followed as the former Alfreton man was found unmarked at the back-post by a Jared Hodgkiss cross, but somehow he headed over from point blank range.
  • Another free kick for the visitors, this time right on the edge of the area, saw Styche's effort from 18-yards ricochet out for a fruitless corner.
  • Hereford had a chance right at the death to grab a consolation goal, but it wasn't to be. A foul on Styche saw Tom Owen-Evans' curling free kick smash against the crossbar, but the danger was swiftly cleared.
  • FULL TIME 2-0
