A HEREFORD tennis player is showcasing her talents against the best on the British circuit.

Hereford and Worcester 10 and under Girls County Singles Tennis Champion and county player Sofie Glinos has recently competed in two winter national tour tennis competitions, each consisting of the top-32 ranked girls in Great Britain at that age group.

Glinos trains with Tennis Hereford at the Hereford, Squash, Tennis and Racketball Centre in Whitecross.

At Sunderland Tennis Centre in December, the youngster fought to a third set tie-break win in the first round against the Derbyshire number one, Tia Dhillon.

A further third set tie-break win on the first day against the Kent number two, Ashleigh Hannah, secured Glinos an impressive 12th placed finish.

Last weekend at Bromley Tennis Centre (Kent), Glinos had the challenge of playing the Great Britain and Middlesex number one, Holley Smart, in the first round.

Whilst the Herefordshire youngster battled hard, a comprehensive win for Smart meant that Glinos competed in the consolation half of the draw for the remainder of the competition.

Further losses then followed against Eva Hutchins (Scotland East), 4-2, 4-1, and a revenge win for Ashleigh Hannah (Kent) in a third set tie break.

However, two wins from two on the second day of the competition, including a 4-0, 4-0 win against the Dorset's number one player, Sophia Spires, ensured Glinos finished on a high.

Her performances have secured the youngster a place in the final 10 and under national winter tour competition of the season in Easton (Norwich) in February, where she has a chance of securing a place at the end of season national invitational competition consisting of the top-16 ranked girls at that age group in the country.
