Luctonians had looked to have squandered their early pressure when Owen Harriott-Davies was dispossessed.
However, a Huddersfield forward pass allowed John Morris to kick a penalty from 30 metres out.
As the game settled down and small errors broke up play it took until the 31st minute for the opening try.
Following several phases of play the ball was played along the line for Drew Cheshire to fly over the whitewash.
The visitors almost replied immediately with winger Kian Stewart going on a mazey run.
He was eventually tackled, but the ball came back wide for him in space only for Stewart to miss-control and the chance was gone.
Huddersfield did reply with the last kick of the game with Will Milner kicking a penalty to bring them back to 8-3 at the break.
The visitors showed they were up for the battle when kicking a penalty to touch and then driving over their opening try to take a 10-8 lead.
Luctonians replied through converted Aiden Cheshire try and then hung on as the visitors threw everything at them in the latter stages.
