AFTER improving defensively Hereford Pegasus sent a message to their league rivals with a 2-0 win over Clanfield 85.

Goals in each half from Miles Langford and Kieron Slatter saw their side go top of Hellenic League One West after eight games.

"We are starting to play well to be fair and have now had two clean sheets in a row, said joint manager Mick Panniers.

"We were conceding too many goals. We are always going to score goals as we are set-up as that type of team so we have been trying to improve our defence.

"Signing Dan Price has helped with his quality and him, Kyle Panniers and Connor Davies-Austin have been superb.

"Not conceding gives us something to build on as I feel we are always going to get a goal."

Langford opened the scoring after 19 minutes with a fine individual effort which saw him cut in from the right before firing his shot into the top corner.

Kieron Slatter sealed the points on the 62nd minute after finishing a well-worked move at the far post.

"We played well to be fair and they (Clanfield) were a different type of side," added Panniers

"They were big, strong and very direct so it was a good test for us.

"We are a young side and not really the biggest so it was good to see how we coped with their physicality.

"They had one or two openings but didn't really create any open chances.

"It could have ended up scoring four or five as we had openings and a couple of goalmouth scrambles which I don't know how they didn't go in.

"They (Clanfield) will upset a lot of teams but the 3G surface meant we could play football around them. On a dingy and muddy pitch they would have been a handful as they were very direct and a big side."
